He is the son of painter Fahrelnisa Zeid and writer İzzet Melih Devrim. He graduated from the Fine Arts Faculty in 1942.
He entered the Painting Department of the Academy. He spent part of his time at the Academy with Léopold Lévy.
During his academy years, he became interested in Arabic letters and abstract Islamic art.
He joined the Yeniler Grup during his student years.
He settled in Paris, where he won the scholarship exam in 1946. He served as the head of the Chartres Cathedral until 1950.
He worked on stained glass.
He opened his first exhibition in Paris in 1947.
He founded the Ekim Salonu group in 1951. His passion for geometric painting was the reason he founded this group.
After a while, he left the group, saying that it had deviated from the group's principles.
He went to New York in 1956. During his time in America, he was influenced by contemporary American architecture which began to appear in his paintings.
After 1960, the understanding of art turned towards Abstract Expressionism. Between 1965-68 his understanding of painting softened under the influence of his visits to different countries. In abstract expressionism. He created a unique and original style with the colorism he included.
