DEVRİM ERBIL - ABSTRACTION

He entered the Painting Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1955. He was a student of Halil Dikmen in the gallery and of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu in the studio. He founded the Abstract 7'ler group in 1959. He graduated from the Painting Department of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts. He became an assistant at the Academy in 1962. He worked in the studios of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Cemal Tollu and Cevat Dereli. He founded the Mavi Group with Tülay Tura, Altan Gürman, Adnan Çoker and Sarkis in 1963.

In 1965, he went to Madrid and Barcelona on an art scholarship provided by the Spanish Government and began his professional research and examinations, which he continued in Paris and London. In 1969, he served as the President of the Turkish Contemporary Painters Association. In 1970, he received the title of Associate Professor from the İ.DGS Academy. In 1975, he served as the President of the Visual Artists Association. In 1979, he was appointed Director of the Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum; he served in this position for three and a half years. In 1981, he was promoted to Professor at the İ.DGS Academy. In 1985, he was appointed Head of the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University, and in 1988, he was appointed Head of the Department of Fine Arts at Yıldız University, and in 1990, he was appointed Vice Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University. He was honored with the title of State Artist in 1991.

Devrim Erbil opened many mixed exhibitions abroad. He was the commissioner of exhibitions introducing Turkish Art. (Alexandria, Belgrade, Sofia, Kuwait) He gave conferences on art, his articles were published. The artist's works are in Istanbul-Ankara-Izmir Painting and Sculpture Museums, Bucharest Modern Art Museum, Ben and Abby Grey Foundation Collection in Banja Luka Umnetnicka Galerija, Ankara National Library Collection, in official institutions and private collections in Turkey and abroad.
