ABIDIN DINO 1913-1993
Born in Istanbul, the artist lived in Switzerland until the age of 12 when his family settled in Geneva the year he was born. Abidin Dino returned to Istanbul after World War I. He left his education at Robert College unfinished due to his interest in painting and caricature. In 1933, he formed the "d Group" group with Nurullah Berk, Cemal Tollu, Zeki Faik İzer, Elif Naci and sculptor Zühtü Müritoğlu.
Living mostly in Paris for the second half of his life, self-taught painter Abidin Dino became an active part of the French art world. In the summer of 1959, he spent his first holiday in Antibes, a popular holiday resort among artists and intellectuals in the south of France.
