Eren Eyüboğlu, who began her painting education during her secondary education in Romania and later attended the Iaşi Fine Arts Academy, was educated in the André Lhote studio during her time in Paris under the name Ernestine Leibovici. The artist, who met Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu in the Lhote studio and married him in 1936, taking the name Eren Eyüboğlu, was among the members of Group d. Eren Eyüboğlu questioned how she could make the painting she worked on “better” until the end of her life. Eyüboğlu, who was influenced by Cézanne and Matisse during her years in Paris, adopted Matisse’s understanding of color in particular and combined this understanding of color with a folkloric language unique to her.
“I have never seen Türkiye as my second homeland. Turkey has been my homeland since 1936. I found many values in my new country that I did not know or recognize before, values that gave me the joy of drawing, painting and creating.” The artist supports this idea with the local motifs, landscapes and cultural elements he uses in his works.
