FABIUS BREST

He studied with Emile Loubon in Marseille and Constant Troyon in Paris. Loubon had a privileged place in the art life of Brest. The relationships he established with the Barbizon School artists during his education influenced his understanding of landscape. The works he made based on his observations of nature in outdoor areas replaced the artificial nature depictions constructed in the workshop. Returning to Marseille in 1845, Loubon, who made a great contribution to the revitalization of the art life of the city of Brest, founded the Marseille Salon. Here, he exhibited the works of the Parisian Orientalist masters, along with Camille Corot, Rousseau, and Millet. He contributed to the formation of the Marseille School of Landscape. He lived in Istanbul between 1855-1859 and painted many parts of the city. He reflected daily life in his paintings. Eastern architecture in particular was a primary source of inspiration.
