MAHMUT CUDA

In 1918, he entered the preparatory department of Sanayi-i Nefise and continued his education at İbrahim Çallı Studio. Starting from 1919, he participated in Galatasaray exhibitions. In 1923, he went to Munich and continued his education at Hans Hofmann Studio with Ali Çelebi and Zeki Kocamemi. In 1924, after passing the state exam, he went to Paris and studied at the famous Julian Academy in Lucien Simon Studio for four years.

Returning to Istanbul, Mahmut Cuda began his career as an assistant teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts, but he left this position after a while because he could not get along with the academic community. Joining the Independent Painters and Sculptors Association, Cuda also contributed to the establishment of the Turkish Painters and Sculptors Association in 1942. As part of his domestic tours, he first went to Trabzon and then to Bitlis in 1943. The artist founded the Turkish Painters Association in 1950 and organized the association's exhibitions outside of Istanbul. Also interested in the world of writing, the artist wrote articles on art and published the magazine Fine Arts in 1952.

Choosing a unique path in his art, Mahmut Cûda interpreted cubist and constructivist art movements in his works by blending the influences of the classical art tradition.
