Nejad Melih Devrim
He is the son of painter Fahrelnisa Zeid and writer İzzet Melih Devrim. He entered the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1942. He spent some of his time at the academy as a student of Léopold Lévy. During his academy years, he became interested in Arabic letters and abstract Islamic art. He joined the Yeniler Group during his student years. He settled in Paris, where he passed the scholarship exam in 1946. He remained the architect of the Chartres Cathedral until 1950.
He worked on stained glass. He opened his first exhibition in Paris in 1947. He founded the October Salon group in 1951. His interest in geometric painting played a role in establishing this group. After a while, he left the group, saying that it had deviated from the principles of the group. He went to New York in 1956. During his time in America, the effects of contemporary American architecture began to be seen in his paintings. After 1960, his understanding of art turned towards Abstract Expressionism. His understanding of painting softened under the influence of his visits to different countries between 1965-68. He created a unique and original style with the colorism he included in Abstract Expressionism.
